Court halts LFA Congress

The Civil Court in Monrovia places a writ of injunction on the congress of the Liberia Football Association held over the weekend, April 14, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville, outside Monrovia, following lawsuit filed by one of the presidential candidates, George Solo, an executive of the Nimba United Football Club.

Delegates, election officials, observers, lovers of the game have gathered at the SKD to witness the electoral process and the entire congress when the sheriff of the court delivered the writ to the authorities of the LFA. With the issuance of the writ, all activities of the congress, including the holding of elections automatically ceases.

Speaking to this paper about his legal action, Solo explains that he had earlier filed a formal complaint to the congress committee against one of the Presidential candidates, Musatapha Raji, whom he (Solo) claims does not meet requirements set by the committee but the committee allegedly downplayed his enquires.
Solo, one time National Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change, continues that he later forwarded his complaint to Appeal Board of the LFA but it delays in handling the matter.

According to him, one of the requirements of the FA is a candidate vying for the FA presidency should be a bachelor degree holder, which Mr. Raji allegedly lacks.
He says because of reluctance of the FA’s authorities, he had no option but to seek legal attention through the justice system of Liberia.

Three candidates are seeking for the presidency of the Liberia Football Association, including Musa Shannon, George Solo and Musatapha Raji. The extraordinary congress of the Liberia Football Association or LFA was greeted with massive protest against one of its presidential contenders, Musatapha Raji. The protesters over the weekend, claim that Mr. Raji, who is President for a local football club LISCR, is a Nigerian national so he can’t occupy the nation’s football house as president.
