An Inter-agency Committee set up by government to investigate recent demonstration against operations of MOPP and CRC is expected to start today in Maryland County.
MOPP is the Maryland Oil Palm Plantation, while CRC is the Cavalla Rubber Corporation, both operating in Maryland County.
The committee, headed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, comprises the Ministries of Justice, Labor and Agriculture.
Other members of the committee include Land Commission, National Bureau of Concessions and Maryland County Administration.
A release said the County’s Legislative Caucus will serve as Ex-officio.
The investigation is coming in the wake of a letter of complaint filed by the Maryland Youth Association expressing dissatisfaction about how the two companies are allegedly operating in the county.
The Inter-agency Committee will launch a comprehensive investigation involving all parties including concession communities, the youth and the concessions.
Meanwhile, the committee seeks the full cooperation of all interested parties in the situation.
