The political leader of the Alternative National Congress and presidential hopeful Alexander B. Cummings has donated US$1Million to the University of Liberia Student Union for its scholarship program.
Making the presentation at the launch of the scholarship program, Mr. Cummings encouraged students of the university to take seriously their education as Liberia was depending on them to move the country forward.
He described education as a very important part of how Liberians could clean and change the country, admonishing all Liberians to take advantage of the scholarships and not to be left behind. The University of Liberia Student Union ULSU launched the scholarship funds drive to enable students register for the current semester.
According to the President of ULSU, Daniel T. Woart, the purpose of the scholarship is to help thousands of students without financial capacities to enroll in school. He said the Government of Liberia did not realize that the US$4.00 per credit would have kept thousands of students out of school, saying most of the students didn’t have such money to pay.
He noted that most students find it very difficult to remain in school because they cannot afford the fees.
