Custom Boasts of Progress

Yesterday January 26, 2011, the Custom Bureau here paraded through the principle streets of Monrovia in observance of world custom day as it’s done internationally. Custom Commissioner Madam Decontee King Sackie told reporters in an interview that the bureau of custom here has made lots of positive impacts on Liberia’s economy.

According to her, Custom is contributing 40 percent into the national revenue and had surpassed its target by ten percent at the end of December 31, 2010. She further indicated that the bureau of customs is contributing $106 Million in the national budget for 2010/2011.

Madam Sackie was quick to point out that they were working on migrating customs’ tariff to the ECOWAS Common External Tariff.

“Currently we are in the process of redrafting the Customs code that will be able to bring in the clear and simple file procedure that every one interacting with custom will be able to understand,” she said.

In its awareness and sensitization program celebrated yesterday, custom commissioner Sackie said the exercise was to inform the Liberian people of the activities of custom in the country and the world at large.
