Cutlass waving criminals on rampage

Notorious criminals armed with dangerous objects, including cutlasses are back in the streets of Monrovia and parts adjacent, victimizing several persons.Cutlass-carrying criminals unleashed terror in the Crown Hill vicinity, snatching cell phones, handbags and other valuables from their victims with impunity.

They recently attacked an employee of The New Dawn Newspaper Alfred Jah at night while he was on his way to work, making away with his mobile phone. However, following vigorous search, a suspect connected to the robbery was apprehended and the stolen phone retrieved.

On Sunday, 29 September at about 10:30 PM, a female member of the Fire for Fire Church located opposite the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications was attacked and her handbag snatched, while she and her fiancée were returning from worship.

The woman, dressed in a red and white long dress and her fiancée attired in a light blue suit, came under attack from three cutlass-waving criminals, who escaped with the handbag of the lady. The victim, who appeared very frustrated, quickly returned up Crown Hill and informed private security guards about her nightmare after the criminals had fled.

Another area which has become a dangerous zone is the old Daily Observer building on Crown Hill opposite Afriland Bank. The area is now home to dozens of hardened criminals who inflict bodily wounds on their victims.
They sleep in the old Daily Observer building and at night hours take in drug described as ‘trauma dog’ – a table used by hospitals during surgical operations, before invading the streets of Monrovia in search of valuables.

The criminals also hide themselves in former Europe Bank under the cover of darkness from where they attack and steal from innocent people. Meanwhile, victims of their acts are calling on the Liberia National Police (LNP) to deploy armed officers around these trouble spots to prevent criminals from endangering lives of unarmed citizens.
