DEA arrests 2 with 16kgs marijuana

Drugs Enforcement Agency agents in Nimba County have arrested huge quantity of marijuana. DEA boss, Col. Julius Kanubah, Sr. told The NewDawn that suspects Cyrus Tomah was arrested with10 kilograms of marijuana and Evelyn Gonkarnu was also arrested with 6kgs of the same substance.

Cyrus Tomah, 26, and Evelyn Gonkarnu, 35, have been charged with unlawful position of marijuana and sent to court. The two suspects came from Bahn in Nimba County and were enroute to Monrovia when DEA agents in Ganta arrested them.

The Drugs Enforcement Agency has put the total cost or street value of the substance at 48,000 Liberian Dollars. Marijuana has become a major trade in Nimba with both women and men said to be involved in the business. The NewDawn correspondent in Nimba said Congo in Ganta, said to be the home community of deputy police commander Abraham Kromah, a major trading center for drugs.

During a visit to the community recently, this paper observed women, men and teenage girls in substance abuse right in the heart of Ganta, a major trading town that connects Liberia and neighboring Guinea.
