DEA destroys drugs worth over 900,000LRD

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) sub-office in Nimba County burns narcotics worth 930,480 Liberian dollars in Ganta City. Drugs destroyed include 640kgs of Marijuana, 2000 grams of Heroin, and 254 grams of Cocaine.


The drugs were arrested from suspects and users in Ganta, Sanniquellie, Bahn, Karnplay Saclepea and Tappita, respectively and kept by the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency until Tuesday, June 26, observed here as National Drugs Day.

Speaking to reporters during the burning ceremony in Ganta City, LDEA Commander for Nimba County, Arnold Kenewon discloses the substances drugs were arrested few months ago from citizens, predominantly youths, including travelers.

Commander Kenewon expresses disappointment in the court system in the county. According to him, LDEA arrested huge suspects, including users and forwarded them to court, but they were subsequently released and are back in the streets, cities and communities engaged in substance abuse.
