Deputy Police Chief lauds women in security sector

Deputy Police Director for Operations, Colonel Robert W. Budy, says more than before, women are playing pivotal role in revamping the Liberian security sector.


He says women have gradually learned to muster the courage, break the barriers, and overcome to serve in the security sector. Col. Budy made the observation at program marking the end of 16 weeks of training for Women in Peace Security Advance Specialized Course held Wednesday, February 28, at the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation, University of Liberia.

According to him, amid the challenges gallant women have acquired requisite training and been equipped with the appropriate apparatus to keep the communities safe and foster sustainable peace across the country.

Col. Budy points out that alongside their male counterparts, women in the sector security are engaging, educating and empowering communities to make peace a way of live, while enforcing the rule of law.

The deputy police chief indicates that in every segment of the security sector, female officers are in the limelight of leading progress, utilizing their energy, enthusiasm, and innovation.

“All this and many are happening through the success stories of the Security Sector Reform in Liberia”, he noted.He stresses that the Security Sector Reform has transformed the Liberian security sector in many ways and provided a unique platform for women who were passionate to serve their Country.

“Today, those women who chose the path to carry the flag of this Republic on their right arms are treated with dignity and respect”, he notes.He continues that the family and even those outside the family of the patriotic men and women serving in the Security Sector are now appreciating that it is more honorable to become a soldier, respectable to become an Immigration officer, admirable to become a fire fighter and laudable to serve your country in the security sector, but adds that it is not however rosy.

Col. Budy emphasizes that the human resource capacity gap, logistical problem and better incentive for the entire security apparatus need serious consideration.
