The head of the Bureau of Immigration and Nationalization or BIN Col. Lemuel Reeves has urged Liberians to desist from destructive thought and think positively for the forward march of the country.
He spoke Tuesday, 22 November at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new terminal and runway for Roberts International Airport in Margibi County. “I am proud that my country Liberia will have a new brand terminal and the rehabilitation of runway 04-22,” the BIN boss said.
He said the groundbreaking ceremony performed by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Tuesday was a memorial one and such event would not be forgotten. Col. Reeves noted that the project is what Liberians have been praying for and now their prayers have been answered, especially the airport, which he said upon completion, will serve as one of the gateways to the growth of the Liberian economy.
The BIN boss further stressed that those who helped in making such dream become achievable did extremely well and must be applauded for their hard work and coordination, saying “It is easy to destroy but hard to get resources to develop.”
The RIA, like many other infrastructures across the country, got damaged during the Liberian Civil War. Rocket shells brought down the airport terminal and severely affected the runway.
Previous and current administrations have executed several rehabilitation works, but the RIA, once a pride of Africa, is yet to be fully restored to international standard.
The present rehabilitation project is being implemented by the Government of the People’s Republic of China on a bilateral agreement with the Government of Liberia.
