Disaster Relief Training Opens in Bong

The Disasters Relief Commission at the Ministry of Internal Affairs is currently holding a Strategic Disaster planning for disaster managers from five counties in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The training, according to the Commission’s Region Three coordinator Jonathan Wordsworth, is meant to develop the skills of the disaster managers in handling and reporting disaster issues.

Wordsworth said some basic topical issues being passed onto participants include operational, health, as well as Information Technology, among others. Coordinator Wordsworth noted that the health component deals directly with health-related issues, while the operational component focuses on preparing better operations for the effectiveness of the committees.

The current process in Gbarnga brought together disaster committee members from Grand Gedeh, Lofa, Nimba, Bong and other Counties. The training comes after the training of sixty Liberians in Ghana, under the auspices and sponsorship of US Africom on Disaster Preparedness.
