Disgraced Ecobank Official Hospitalized

The health status of Trokon Brown, the Ecobank official who was arrested for allegedly stealing US$12, 000 from one of the bank’s branches remains uncertain at the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital opposite Old Road after he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit for reportedly drinking rat poison.

Tronkon is a junior brother of Information Minister Lewis Brown. He took in the poison after it was discovered that he allegedly transferred the said amount into his personal account. This paper has gathered that visitation to Trokon is being restricted to immediate relatives, including Minister Lewis Brown and the victim’s wife.

Trokon is said to be an employee of Ecobank-Liberia Limited in Monrovia, where he has been linked to US$12,000 theft. The money was reportedly transferred from the account of a customer of the bank into his (Trokon’s) personal account. After drinking the rat poison in an apparent attempt to commit suicide, he allegedly sent a text message to his wife, informing her to take good care of their children.

According to a private radio station Love FM, the theft was discovered after an internal audit in the bank. The intrusion was discovered when the account owner visited the bank and immediately alerted the management, who promptly launched an internal investigation. It was from the internal audit that Trokon is being held liable for illegally withdrawing from the customer’s account.

Ecobank-Liberia Management could neither confirm nor deny the report.  Ecobank-Liberia, a Pan African financial institution’s operations here continue to cast doubt in the wake of repeated reports of customers’ savings being allegedly tempered with by staff of the bank.
