The Liberia National Police has forwarded a 22-year old man believed to be a self-proclaimed witch doctor to court for prosecution for multiple rape.
The accused allegedly raped two girls, ages 15 and 16, and their 28-year-old mother (name withheld). Defendant Hassan Dukuly, duly charged with theft of property, rape and statutory rape is currently detained at the Monrovia Central Prison, pending prosecution.
Police say defendant Dukuly was arrested following a formal complaint filed by a relative of the victims, who were reportedly raped, while seeking help to solve their spiritual problems.
The victims’ relative quoted by the Police stated that the defendant, in an effort to achieve his motive, influenced her sister by means of deception and impersonation in order to gain the trust and confidence of several individuals, who he dupe of US$35,000 under the pretense of sending them to the United States of America.
The relative of the victim continued in her complaint that the defendant also in his scam did sexually abuse her three nieces in graveyards, and at fearful and dark locations in Montserrado, Margibi and Bong counties where their underclothes were buried or left after sexually abusing them.
According to the Police charge sheet, preliminary investigation conducted with one of the girls age 15, revealed that during the end of Ramadan, the Muslims prayer period in June 2014, defendant Dukuly, a resident of Jacob Town in Paynesville, went to their Gardnersville residence and told her that she had family problems and she was a witchcraft.
The 15 –year old victim explained that from his statement, the defendant invited her behind Kebbah in Bardnersville to an isolated area under the pretext that he could drive away the witch, but upon their arrival, the defendant asked her to undress herself in the center of the graveyard and instructed her to stand on a lappa at which time he mixed lime, ginger and rice dust and put it in her private parts and begin to have sex with her.
The second victim age 16 is also quoted by the police said on October 2014, at 7:00PM defendant Dukuly allegedly took her into a bush in Harbel, Margibi County for seven days, stripped her naked, put her hands behind her head, turned her face around and had sex with her, and when he was finished, put the lime and ginger in her private parts and told her to urinate in his hands and he drank it.
The third victim, who is said to be the mother of the two girls, reportedly told the Police that she received a call from one Karbah Demba, telling her that she was a witch and one Hassan Dukuly was coming to remove her from witchcraft activities.
She also stated that the defendant came with a ginger, lime, rice dust and took her around 15 Gate, Harbel Road in the bush in Margibi County, where he rubbed some of the lime on his waist with his hand, in her private parts along with the ginger and spread the rice dust around and forcefully had sex with her by knocking her down and told her to throw her underclothes to where they had the sex.
According to the Police, defendant Dukuly was duly charged with the commission of the crimes after Police visited the various crime scenes where evidence were gathered along with medical reports that showed that the victims were raped with the 15-year-old girl discovered pregnant for about 14 weeks.
The Police say they established that defendant Dukuly during the course of his fake ritual practice on the victims, took advantage of their vulnerability and sexually abused them in swamps, dark and isolated places. The Police furthered that defendant Dukuly made no comment and chose to remain silent throughout the course of the investigation.
