Dr. Sawyer turns 70 on Monday

Dr Amos sawyer NDFormer Interim President and current Chairman of the Governance Commission Dr. Amos C. Sawyer turns 70 on Monday, June 15, with family, friends and well wishers organizing major events to commemorate what they term the “life of this great Statesman of Africa”, who was born and bred in Liberia.

According to the organizing committee – Well Wishers of Amos Claudius Sawyer or WACS, the festivities being with a thanksgiving service at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church on10th Street Sinkor, this Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m., while on Monday, June 15, Dr. Sawyer will be feted to lunch organized by staff of the Governance Commission.

Prior to the lunch, on Monday morning, WACS will organize a simultaneous live broadcast on four of Liberia’s most widely listened to radio stations for an exclusive interview with Dr. sawyer, unarguably one of Africa’s greatest political scientists in modern times.

The interview will give the public a panoramic view into the mind of the man, who managed the peace process right after the1990 war and held Liberia stable for over four years.

Attorney Medina Wesseh will play host along with broadcast journalist Solomon Weh of Truth FM 96.1, while the Deputy-General at the Liberia Broadcasting System, Christopher Selee will anchor at ELBC. Sky Communications Station Managers T-Max Jlateh and Martin Brown will anchor at Sky FM, while Liberia’s most celebrated DJ and now talk show host, Bernard Benson, a.k.a. “DJ Blue” will anchor at Hot FM Broadcast journalist Patrick Hornah of the famous late afternoon Bumper Show on ELBC, State radio, will play host to River Gee County Senator Conmany Wesseh and former Montserrado County Representative Dusty Wolokolie – two long-time associates of Dr. Sawyer in the political struggle for rice and rights. 

According to the WACS, these events will unfold throughout the month of June and will witness the hosting of two days of intellectual discourse and dialogue which will feature prominent international guest speakers, including the long-time Secretary General of ECOWAS and later chair of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Mohamed Ibans Chambas, who is currently Special Representative of the Secretary General in the region.

A gala dinner which is expected to be attended by officials and dignitaries along with friends and family from Sinoe County, Dr. Sawyer’s birthplace as well as other political friends and associates will be held mid-year to climax events celebrating the life of this illustrious son of the Republic of Liberia.

Dr. Sawyer is also a former Professor of the University of Liberia.
