Ellen Consoles France on the Terrorist Attack in Nice

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of condolence to the President of the Republic of France, His Excellency Mr. Francois Hollande, on the terrorist attack in the southern French city of Nice late Thursday, July 14.

At least 84 people were killed, including more than 10 children, after a lorry slammed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French city of Nice. The driver was eventually shot dead by police.
President Francois Hollande said the attack was of “an undeniable terrorist nature”.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, in the message on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and personally to her colleague, H.E. Mr. Francois Hollande, President Sirleaf expressed deepest sympathy to the Government and people of France in the wake of the atrocious terrorist attack in the French Riviera City of Nice, which has so far claimed the lives of 84 people and leaving several others critically injured.

“We view this deliberate and seemingly well-orchestrated horrific act of cowardice as an attack not only on the people of France, but on the whole of democracy and freedom which was epitomized on Bastile Day,” the Liberian leader said, further noting that on such sad occasion, Liberia joins all likeminded nations in strongly denouncing this barbaric act and stand in solidarity with France, particularly as they endure this period of national mourning.

“Our sincere prayers and thoughts go out to the people of France, particularly families of the fatal victims and those wounded,” the Liberian leader stressed.-Press release
