Equatorial Guinea hailed at 48

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has conveyed a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on the auspicious occasion marking the 48th Independence Anniversary of that country.

October 12 is celebrated each year as the Independence Day of Equatorial Guinea, which became a following its independence on October 12, 1968 with the election of Francisco MacíasNguema as its first President.

In her message to His Excellency, TeodoroObiangNguema, President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, President Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations and best wishes to the Government and people of Equatorial Guinea on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia.

According to a Foreign Ministry release, the Liberian Leader assured Equatorial Guinea of Liberia’s commitment to strengthening the existing cordial ties between both countries aimed at exploring new potential areas of cooperation for the mutual benefit of their respective peoples.

“As we endeavor to improve prosperity for our peoples and lead the path to a brighter future, we should continuously nurture the historic ties between our countries,” President Sirleaf stressed.
