Ethiopia’s sends special envoy here

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Thursday received a Special Envoy from the People’s Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. Special Envoy Dr. Tedros Adhanom was in Liberia to deliver a Special Message from the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn.

An Executive Mansion release said, Mr. Tedros delivered a special communication to President Sirleaf on behalf of her Ethiopian counterpart during a brief discussion held at her Foreign Ministry Office in Monrovia.

An internationally recognized Malaria Researcher, Mr. Tedros was Ethiopia’s Minister of Health from 2005 to 2012 and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2016. In January 2016, during the Sixty-sixth Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, the AU endorsed his candidature for the next election of the Director General of the World Health Organization as the sole African candidate.

President Sirleaf reminded Mr. Tedros about the long-term historical relationship between Liberia and Ethiopia and pointed out that both countries will always stand with each other in every constructive endeavor. She re-echoed the need for the reactivation of the Joint Commission between Liberia and Ethiopia, noting that it must now be made practical and functional.-Press release
