EU gears up to open road

The head of delegation of the European Union or EU, Madam Tiina Intelmann said preparations are far advance for the opening of the newly constructed road linking Gbarnga to Guinea border through Nimba.

‘’The road leading from Gbarnga to Ganta -Guinea border will be open this October 2015,” the EU envoy said. Speaking to group of reporters at her UN Drive Mamba Point office Thursday, madam Intelmann said for the next 10 years Liberians will not have to worry about good roads again.

She said what would be expected of the government of Liberia is that it should take responsibility to maintain its infrastructures. She also said that by January 2017, the road leading from the commercial district of Red Light to Ganta will be completed and turn over to the government of Liberia.

According to madam Intelmann, the road from Red Light to Gbarnga is 126 km and that 92km has been done.  The Red Light to Ganta road network is being sponsored by the EU, with contributions coming from the World Bank’. A total amount of US$166m has been provided for the project, with $71m of that amount coming from EU.
