The Chairman of the House Committee on State Enterprise, Representative Zoe Pennue has told Legislative reporters here that all those connected with the missing LRD16 billion will be investigated even if they are a relative of Jesus Christ.
Government on Monday confirmed that LRD16 billion brought in to the country via the Roberts International Airport (RIA) and the Free Port of Monrovia between November 2017 and August 2018 disappeared from the two ports.
Several officials of government both past and present at the RIA and NPA, according to Rep Pennue are to be asked to give their accounts, saying that “this scandal will not be taken lightly.”
“We are summoning the APM Terminal management, the Custom Department at the Freeport of Monrovia, and other relevance agencies of government to give their respective account. Doing our investigation, if it is established that a niece or nephew of Jesus Christ is connected to the money’s scandal that person will be prosecuted and exposed to the Liberian people. We cannot sit here and allow the Weah administration to be embarrassed both locally and internationally because of someone’s deal,” he told Legislative reporters Tuesday.
The Government through the Ministry of Justice, said Monday September 17 that a container and bags of money allegedly arrived in the country and went missing.
But Rep Pennue said it is hard time that officials of government should stop playing on the intelligence of the Liberian people by playing games with money that should help to change the lives of the already suffering people here.
Also commenting on the missing money, former Montserrado County Representative, and now President of the Bushrod Technical College, Dr. Edward Forh said it is impossible for one container to go missing at the ports of Liberia.
Dr. Forh pointed out that the allegation sounds so slumped for one to believed, adding, there are lot of gaps between information being provided so far and that the government should double effort in tracing the Liberian people money.
He noted such news coming from here would reduced the government’s chances of getting international donors’ funding and it has the propensity to damage the image with international financial institutions globally.
