Fake medical drugs arrested

A huge consignment of fake medical drugs has been arrested at the Ganta border in Nimba County. The regional head for the Liberia Medicine and Dental Services, Joseph Coleman, said the drugs were arrested by authorities of the Drugs Enforcement Agency in the county.

According to him, majority of the counterfeit drugs sold in the market are smuggled into Liberia thru various border entries and that they contain chemical substances that are harmful to the human body. Mr. Coleman has put the estimated value of the confiscated fake drugs at more than US$15,000.

He told this paper that the act of importing counterfeit drugs here is a crime punishable by law. Meanwhile, the confiscated counterfeit medical drugs have been taken to Monrovia for appropriate disposal.
