Fire Guts Building At LPRC

Fire gutted at least one building Monday at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) on Bushrod Island, Monrovia. Authorities at the LPRC are yet to establish cause of the fire or how the incident occurred. No casualties were reported up to news time.

Notwithstanding, skepticism stirred yesterday when LPRC Security prevented several local journalists from entering the premises. A group of reporters, who arrived on the scene earlier, said they were directed by securities to enter through the next gate, where they were also denied.

Journalists later made their way through the fence, when securities opened the gate to allow a vehicle in, but by then, fire fighters had already succeeded in cutting the fire off. The authorities also prevented reporters from photographing the scene.

However, LPRC Public Relations Manager, Nyonblee A. Karnga- Lawrence, said the securities acted based on safety reasons. She said investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the incident.
