The Liberia National Fire and Rescue Service has taken its fire safety awareness on campuses, starting with God of Mercy School in Wroto Town, Sinkor Airfield.

The awareness is intended to educate students on fire disaster preventive measures in homes, especially while parents are away.

Fire Service spokesperson Jackie Sieaa, said they are collaborating with the media to get their aims and objectives achieved.

She further revealed that the exercise is also to abreast the public on the dangers of fire and precautionary measures that should be taken, pending arrival of firefighters on the ground.

The LNFRS was established to safeguard lives and property from the scourge of fire across the length and breadth of Liberia and to promote efficient fire prevention services.

The Service has four basic functions, including fire prevention, public education that involves precautionary and protective measures that are necessary to ensure safety from fire, actual firefighting that involves physical combat of outbreak, burning and spread of fire, ambulance services, and fire investigation.

Meanwhile, dozens of lives and properties worth millions of dollars have been lost to fire incidents across the country.
