Firestone Graduates Over 50 Students in Skills Training

Firestone Liberia Accelerated Learning and Skills Training Program has graduated 54 students in various skills. The graduation ceremony took place on Friday, June 7, 2013, at the Harbel Field House in Margibi County.

Serving as Guest Speaker was Firestone Liberia’s Controller, Mr. Patrick Rodrigo. He commended the students for their decisions to venture into skills training saying, “It is not easy to learn new skills. It takes lots of sacrifices and hard work.”

He also thanked the instructional staff, the Superintendent of Firestone Liberia Accelerated Learning and Skills Training Program, Mrs. Zoe Davis-Traub, and the individual families of the graduates for their support to the students that enabled them to learn the various productive skills.

He admonished the graduates to see their graduation as the beginning and that they must always engage in learning programs that will improve their skills for them to become productive citizens of Liberia.

In her farewell message to the graduates, the institution’s Superintendent, Mrs. Zoë Davis-Traub, expressed optimism that as the students leave the classrooms to pursue further training or to join the workforce, they depart to serve in the best interest of society.

“I want to believe that we the staff, teachers, parents and well wishers have helped you to realize your dreams of   sticking to your course of study. Thank you for not giving up” Mrs. Traub asserted.

Also speaking at the colorful program was the President and Managing Director of Firestone Liberia, Mr. Edmundo L. Garcia who extended his heartfelt congratulations to the graduates for their achievements.

“I share your pride and joy and wish to convey to you all the company’s sincere congratulations as well” Mr. Garcia said. He also expressed Management’s satisfaction to participate in what he called “a laudable program” that was recommended and promoted by the President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson- Sirleaf.

The June 7, 2013 graduation exercise marked the 6th graduation program of the institution, and has graduated over one thousand students. The students acquired skills in various disciplines, including carpentry, baking, tailoring, soap making and plumbing.

The occasion was graced by the presence of senior staffers of Firestone Liberia, including departmental heads, superintendents, supervisors, relatives and friends of the graduates. The occasion was climaxed by exhibitions and sales of the students’ products which included bread, furniture, and soap, among others.
