First Lady Weah condemns manhandling of women in Sinoe

First Lady Clar Marie Weah has condemned the reported inhumane treatment of two ladies in Sinoe County, Southeastern Liberia recently.

The incident was captured in a video which went viral on social media recently.

The video shows the ladies stripped naked, brutalized and paraded in public on allegations of being witches.

In a statement issued Tuesday, 26 February, Mrs. Weah described the ordeal inflicted upon the ladies as barbaric, unacceptable and a flagrant violation of their human rights.

Mrs. Weah, currently in Jerusalem, Israel, where she is accompanying the President on a state visit, expressed dismay over some cruel practices against women still being upheld in certain parts of the country.

The Liberian First Lady says the humiliation of the two women, along with a third person who reportedly died as a result of the brutal handling, is a reckless disregard to humanity, particularly womanhood.

She is quoted in a statement as sending a caveat to perpetrators of this and all forms of violence against women and children that they will face the full weight of the law.

Mrs. Weah asserted that she would not sit supinely and see woman dehumanized.
