FLY engages Political Parties, Candidates
Ahead of the 2017 Presidential and Representatives elections, the Federation of Liberian Youth has launched a dialogue to interact with all political parties and candidates. FLY – an umbrella organization for all youth and students’ groups in the country, FLY called for the support and cooperation of all political parties and independent candidates to attend a one-day luncheon meeting slated for Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 11:0’clocka.m.-in the conference room of the United Nations Population Fund or UNFPA.
For the first time in the history of Liberia, the development of a National Youth Manifesto ahead of the 2017 Presidential and Representative elections will be achieved. The Federation considered the engagement of all political parties and independent candidates, through a roundtable discussion, as a step forward to discuss ideas surrounding the adopted approach to engaging young people throughout Liberia on the development of the National Youth Manifesto. FLY expressed the belief that this will help raise awareness and document the concerns of Liberian Youth across the 15Political Sub-Divisions.
FLY also considered the action as a way of getting political parties and independent candidates to sign-up and pledge support to Youth development through the Youth Manifesto; and will demand accountability, participatory democracy and governance during its implementation.
Pursuant to the foregoing, FLY also expressed appreciation that the registered Political Party Chairpersons would attend, along with their National Youth Wing Chairman next Thursday, May 12, 2016 in the Conference room of the United Nations Population Fund or UNFPA to discuss the forward match of Liberia’s youth agenda.
