Former Beauty Contestant Brings Joy to Liberian Kids

One of the former contestants in the 2012 ill-fated Miss Liberia beauty pageant, Miss Brigitte Rouhana of Montserrado County has expressed the need for newly born babies in Liberia to be taken good care of by mothers and well meaning Liberians in the 2013.

She urged mothers to pay attention to their kids by giving them a motherly feeing as they grow up, and urged Liberians to be a blessing to kids this year, especially those newly born in the various hospitals.

Miss Rouhana said due to the lack of healthcare resources, many children and pregnant women don’t have access to hospitals and even less to treatment and medical personnel, especially in the interior. This explains the increased   mortality rates among infants and mothers—placing them among the highest in the world.

The former Montserrado Queen made the statement when she and other Liberians from the United States of America paid a New Year visit at the ELWA Hospital to share gifts to newly born babies and kids admitted at the hospital.

Miss Rouhana and her friends presented toys and other assaulted items to the kids including pampers as a way of identifying with them.

“There is a saying that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step; giving gifts to kids in the hospital is a step forward; I am honored to be a part of this; this is exactly what we are called to do, service to each other and especially our kids, the less fortunate. There’s absolutely nothing more honorable than putting smiles on the faces of kids who do not know when the next meal will be available” she added.

For his part, David Manly, having been out of here for over sixteen years, expressed joy in showing love to Liberian kids, especially those in the hospital. David, who is also Vice President of an online magazine Ootn, said it would be appropriate while in Liberia on vacation to show care for the Liberian children.

Liberian movie artist and celebrity Evelyn Fairley, believes that in the new Liberia, everyone should have the heart to give for a better Liberia. She described the gifts as little but important for the children’s happiness.

The acting nursing directress at the ELWA Hospital mother Martherlyn Freeman, expressed great joy for Miss Rouhana and her friends for selecting the hospital among other hospitals in Liberia, and urged them to continue the good work, adding “it is a good sign for Liberia.”
