Former Representative Gwaikolo is dead

Former Nimba County Electoral District #9 Representative Johnson Gwaikolo has been announced dead by family members in Monrovia.

According to family sources, the former Nimba County Representative fell off late Sunday evening, 18 February 2024, and was rushed to the St. Joseph Catholic Hospital in Congo Town where he was announced dead.

The cause of his death is yet to be made known to the public.

The news of his passing has deeply saddened members of the 54th Legislature, citizens, and residents of Nimba County.

Representative Gwaikolo represented the people of electoral district #9 Nimba for six years in the 54th Legislature. During his office term, he chaired the Committee on Education and later assumed the role of Chair of the House Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration.

He sought re-election in the just-ended 2023 presidential and legislative elections, but he was beaten by Representative Taa Wongbe.

Following the civil war, former Rep. Gwaikolo served as a member of the National Legislative Assembly.

He is also a former Deputy Minister of Public Works during the administration of ex-President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. Additionally, the late Gwaikolo is a former president of the United Methodist University (UMU).

He resigned from that position to contest the 2017 election which he won.
