Former Speaker Nuquay, Lawmaker on reconciliation

Margibi County District#5 Representative Clarence G. Gahr says the district remains united contrary to claims of division between former and incumbent lawmakers. Speaking recently in Weala, Margibi County, Representative Gahr revealed he had already led the process of reconciliation in the district by settling difference with his predecessor, former Speaker Emmanuel Nuquay.

He adds that an olive branch has also been extended to former candidates, who participated in the 2017 elections, including Mr. Joseph Kollie Marshall of the opposition Liberty Party.

Citizens of the district have continuously called for reconciliation in the area after the 2017 elections.
They called on every resident of the district contribute to the process of unity and reconciliation in District Five, something which they said should be led by the incumbent leadership of the district headed by Representative Clarence G. Gahr.

However, others argue disunity in the district should be the responsibility of former lawmaker Nuquay, and ex-candidates, who participated in the 2017 elections rather than Rep. Gahr leading the process of reconciliation.

Also, a local group, “Pen Pen Peace Network” recently conducted a one-day interactive forum on reconciliation, pointing out that district five is still divided after the elections. The group says it has travelled to other parts of Margibi County and observed district five is the only area that is still divided, and the area is being used as case study for peace and reconciliation.

But Representative Ghar maintains his people are working and living in oneness, saying there is no disunity in the district.According to him, he started the process long ago after the elections by reaching out to former Speaker Nuquay, who is his predecessor in the district and former candidates who contested there and lost.

He specifically refers to the photograph in the story in which he and the former Speaker are holding each other in the public after the elections and the involvement of Mr. Joseph Kollie Marshall, who travelled with him to the district to thank voters for electing him, including the launch of an eight million Liberian Dollars loan scheme for the district for which he has already provided one million LRD.

He notes the calmness of the district coupled with good developmental plan he has crafted for the district for the next five or more years plus willingness of citizens to work with him in moving District Five forward are all indications of reconciliation among the people.
