The American Bar Association (Mighty ABA) at the weekend defeated the Malian Embassy in Liberia (Mali FC) 4 – 1 before a record crowd at the Fish market Sports pitch in Sinkor.
The defeat throws the Malians out of the ongoing French Embassy Trophy (FET). Hamza Bumbia got the curtain raiser in the 8th minute of the match from a scramble ball in Mighty ABA defense to give the Malian a 1- 0 lead.
Melvin Bah, who replaced George Williams in the 27th minute of the match, leveled the score in the 30th minute, when he perfectly made use of a Fin Young’ s connection, thus placing at bay the entire Malian defense. `
Approaching half time break at 35 minute in the 70-minute dame, both teams were aware that either of them must emerge victorious. At the 45th minute, just10 minutes into the second half, Emmet Dillon of Mighty ABA found the back of the net, when he skillfully utilized a Gus Totimeh cross which landed directly on his (Dillon) leg to give the Americans a winning hope.
Gus Totimeh’s double goals a in the 55th and 65th minutes of the match were enough to give Mighty ABA three points with a 4 – 1 win at the expense of Mali FC.
The match was the opener of the second edition of the French Embassy Trophy (FET). In game two, Royal FC defeated International Standard Industry (ISI) 2 – 1. 32 teams are battling for the grand prize, a trophy which goes with a cash prize of US$600.00 in this knock-out competition.
