G/Gedeh District Hosts New Year Feast

A tow-day festival under the auspices of Grand Gedeh County Electoral District Three Representative Alex Chersia Grant to usher in the New Year has taken place in the county.

The festival, held on January 1 and 2, 2016 was also aimed at harnessing the existing peace and harmony among citizens of District Number Three. The ceremonies held in Tojalah Town, Dunnie Chiefdom, Gbao Administrative District, Gbarzon Statutory District, brought together citizens and residents of all five major towns – Zleh, Gaye, Pouh, Gbayea and Tojalah, of Wlormeor Clan.

Performances by masquerades, slaughtering of a bull, observance of harmless traditional rituals that symbolizes peace, unity, long life and promote peaceful co-existence among the people, as well as remarks by Representative Grant, elders, youth, women and opinion leaders characterized the festival which was also attended by scores of locals from Cavalla and Tchien Administrative Districts.

Since its foundation in the late 19th century, no lawmaker has ever held such historical and remarkable event on the soil of Tojalah. Elder Robert Tojalah could not hold back his emotion, especially when he stepped out to remark: “we are happy; we are very happy. Honorable Grant has done a lot of good things for us. He gave us generator, money to build our clinic and plenty other things. Today again, Representative Grant is killing cow in Tojalah Town for all the Gbao people to dine together as we celebrate the New Year with him.”

Several other citizens expressed delight and heartfelt appreciation to Representative Grant for such initiative. In separate remarks, the people also pleaded with the Lawmaker to make the festival rotational in other parts of the District as an annual event to harness peace and unity among them.

Representative Grant indicated that the joy of the people he represents was his utmost desire, and doing so made him satisfied. “You people have not seen anything yet; wait and see. We will not rest until this entire district is modernized. I am pleased to have all of you here today. Your presence is not only a sign of respect for me as your direct Representative to the National Legislature, but also a demonstration of love and unity among the People of Electoral District Three and Grand Gedeh at large,” Grant told citizens.
