Gbarnga: Youths Give City Facelift

The Bong County Youth for Reconciliation and Development (BYRD) recently gave Gbarnga, the Capital of Bong County, a face lift. This group, comprising mainly of youth, were seen covering potholes in the streets of Gbarnga City.

Prior to the covering of these potholes, they were considered “death traps” for pedestrians as well as motorists. Some of the over one hundred youth, who participated in the campaign, told our correspondent that correspondent that they were doing what they felt was right.

They further told our correspondent that as youth of the county they are under moral obligation to contribute their quota to the reconstruction of their county.

“If we wait for government, it is waste of time because we need to first help ourselves before government come in,” remarked one of the youths, who was busying working, as he spoke with our correspondent.

Also speaking was the President of the group, Mr. Seleke F.Kormak. Like the others, Mr. Kormah said, as youth in the community, they need to help themselves before the government can help them.

When asked by our correspondent as to whether the government his group is receiving support from the government or Non-Governmental Organizations to carry out the initiative, he answered in the negative.

“Everything we are doing here is collection from within our group, and we have plans to move to others part of Gbarnga,” Mr. Kormah said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kormah has called on his fellow compatriots, particularly those in Bong County to help contribute their quota to the reconstruction of the county.
