The Steering Committee of Gbarpolu Sports Association has sent a thank you note to officials including Senate Pro Tempore Armah Jallah, Amara Konneh, Senator Daniel Flomo Nathan and Mr. Robert Sirleaf for support to the County Sports Association.
The Committee says Gbarpolu Sports Association received a total of US$27,200.00, expended US$26,445.04, and has a balance (subject to bank charges) of US$759.94.
It says scepticism of County Officials about the intentions of the Committee for the funds was one of the factors responsible for the delay. Regarding, poor involvement of county officials, prominent/ordinary citizens, the Committee says it is its observation that most stakeholders felt excluded and/or felt they were not accorded the courtesy.
It says Gbarpolu participated in all categories (Football, Kickball, Basketball, and Volleyball) of the tournament but did not win a title. Besides the Kickball Team that qualified to the Semi-final stage, the Committee reports that all other teams failed to qualify from the preliminary stage.
It adds that the major challenges it encountered which contributed significantly to the underperformance of the county were both administrative and technical.
Regarding delayed financial support, the Committee notes that funds contributed by Gbarpolu County, through County Development Funds, were made available to the Sports Steering Committee at least one month after the tournament ended.
