GEM-Liberia gets US$5000 grant from AWDF

The Girls Education Movement of Liberia, (GEM-LIBERIA), has received US$5000 Grant from the Tides Foundation through the WOMEN HAVE WINGS- a global movement to invest in women and girls so as to support and enable them create change and pursue their dreams.

The fund was made available through the African Women Development Funds (AWDF). The grant was awarded to GEM-Liberia following the brilliant performances of its Executive Director at the 2015 edition of the Global Women In Management (GWIM61), an organizational Leadership and Financial Management training held in Washington DC, USA.

Madam Davidetta Togba-Cassell was nominated by PLAN International USA from among several nominees hailing from various countries for the 2015 WOMEN HAVE WINGS GLOBAL COURAGE AWARD and was subsequently awarded US$5000.00 as prize for the prestigious award which is being sponsored by Tides FOUNDATION, USA.

The mission of the WHW Global Courage Award is to honor women whose bold actions serve to focus energy and attention in such unique and powerful ways that they accelerate the ongoing change, change that is vital to creating a more prosperous and peaceful future for all. 

Each year Women Have Wings Global Courage Award is presented to women around the world who are living in the courageous spirit of Amelia Earhart. Each Award recipient will have demonstrated bold action in pursuit of her dreams, whether that dream be to bring fresh water to he r community, heal a village from genocide, or seek an end to gender-based violence.

The grant is being awarded through the African Women Development Fund’s Women Human Rights thematic program. Meanwhile, GEM-LIBERIA will undertake programs intended to increase the retention rate of under-privileged girls in school therefore acquainting girls of their rights to education as well as engage the Liberian media in reshaping and increasing coverage on SGBV. -Press release
