The Liberia Golf Association or LGA has announced that it will hold a day – long Oniyama Open at the sea view National Golf Course on Sunday, 26 February in Virginia, outside Monrovia.
The LGA officials were quoted in a release issued in Monrovia Thursday, 23 February as encouraging all professional and amateur golfers to converge on the Seaview National Golf Course on Sunday morning
beginning 8:00 A. m., as the tournament will kick-off by 9:30 prompt.
According to the release, the one day golf tournament is organized in honor of LGA President Dr. C. Nelson Oniyama for his copious and valuable contributions continuously made towards the promotion of the
game in Liberia.
Professional and amateur golfers expected to feature during the Oniyama Open include Emmanuel Moore, Ricks Keller, Akim Ooukola, Akoi Flomo and Victor Gailor, among others.
The release indicates that L$ 50,000.00, L$ 30,000.00 and L$ 20,000.00 cash will be awarded to emerging first, second and third place winners respectively in the professional category.
A giant size golden trophy and two undisclosed consolation prizes are also said to be awaiting would be first, second and third place winners respectively in the amateur category.
“Come one, come all let us honor our President, Dr. Nelson C. Oniyama, as we play the beautiful game of golf in an eco-friendly environment and celebrate with the winners at hole 19-where everybody is a winner,” the release said.
The Sea View Golf Course was formally established in June 2004 by the LGA under the Chairmanship of Dr. C Nelson Oniyama. Another golf course in Liberia is on the premises of the Firestone plantation in Harbel, Margibi County.
