Government Officials Blamed for Capital Flight

A former Minister of Youth and Sports has blamed the level of capital flight by government officials on the lack of love for country’. Mr. Tornnolah Varpilah – Proprietor of the Passion Hotel in Gbarnga, asserted in a conversation with our correspondent, that those who engaged in capital flights were officials whose children and establishments were in other countries.

According to Mr. Varpilah, ‘bad citizens’ were those transferring huge sums of money to developed countries. He also blamed the high level of capital flight on the number of foreign investments in the country.

The former Youth and Sports Minister expressed the belief that capital flight could be curtailed by the introduction of a single currency system, suggesting that the current dual currency system was a

catalyst for capital flight.
