Govt. clarifies photograph on social media

The Government of Liberia clarifies here that photographs of three cabinet ministers posted on social media with comment written, “Shut up” does not refer to opposition or critics, contrary to insinuations in the public.


Government says Finance Minister Samuel Tweah, Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe and the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs were responding to rumors of alleged plan to remove the Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Nathaniel Fello McGill and replace him by Minister Eugene Nagbe.

Authorities here say the post was in direct response to gossipers or rumor mills carrying such misinformation, not opposition or government critics as it was being portrayed to the public, further clarifying that the post was meant for inside conversation among the three officials in the photograph, as there is no division among them.

Government says there is absolutely no plan to replace the Minister of State as was being circulated by gossipers.The post which reads, “Shut up…divide and rule will never work. We are focused on delivery and not foolish gossip…”, went viral here with various interpretations in the public, including attack by government against opposition politicians and critics.

The Weah-led administration is coming under increase criticisms for the poor state of the economy exacerbated by rapid depreciation of the Liberian Dollar against United States Dollars with the current exchange rate between 158 and 157 Liberian Dollars to US$1.00 in the Forex market.
