Gov’t discusses boundary issues

Internal Affairs Minister Varney A. Sirleaf Says the Weah led – administration is engaged in borders and boundaries discussions among counties here.

“There are lots of boundary issues in the country, some are between counties, and some are within the counties. Some of the problems come from the boundaries where natural minerals are found,” the Minister said Thursday, 6 September during a press briefing.

He indicates that others keep taking the boundaries board from their positions and placing them somewhere else in order to possess the minerals.

Minister Sirleaf says since former President Charles Taylor’s regime, there has been a serious confusion between the people of Grand Gedeh and River Gee Counties surrounding where the former president established River Gee.

But Minister Sirleaf indicates government has established the boundary that separates the two counties.According to him, each point of the border has a welcome symbol planted.

But he says government remains engaged in the discussion of other border and boundary issues between counties including Bomi and Gbarpolu.
Meanwhile, Minster Sirleaf has applauded the Liberian Senate for the passage of the Local Government Act.

The Senate concurred with the House of Representatives on Tuesday, 4 September to pass the Act.

During a press briefing Thursday, 6 September at the Ministry of Information, Minister Sirleaf said the Act was established in 2016 and was passed by the House of Representatives.

The Internal Affairs Minister indicates that the Act is the legal framework that backs the decentralization of Government in the various counties.

According to him, decentralization will help the country in the establishment of the local government in the various counties.

Already, Minister Sirleaf says they have embarked on a tour of Bong, Grand Cape Mount, Kakata and rural Montserrado, among others.
