Gov’t. provides US$4.5m for road pavement

The Liberian government through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP) has provided US$4.5 million to local road contractors for the rehabilitation and construction of community roads here. The project includes construction through Monrovia, the pavement of Gbarnga Broad Street, and road leading to Fair Ground in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, respectively.

After Finance Minister Samuel Tweah announced government’s support for the projects recently, President George Manneh Weah assured that his government would exert every effort necessary to explore and make use of all available means capable of creating an environment that would be conducive for national development.

He maintains that his administration has the potential and willpower to ensure the achievement of national development and economic growth.President Weah however warns that the country will not achieve its potential in development in the absence of sustained peace, reconciliation and unity among Liberians.

“Let bygone be bygone,” President Weah entreated Liberians, adding: “Let us reconcile among ourselves so that together we can build a Liberia in which our people will prosper.”Earlier making the disclosure of the US$4.5 million recently in Montserrado, Finance Minister Samuel Tweah said that the money is initial payment for the construction exercise as mandated by President George Manneh Weah.

Minister Tweah assures Public Works Minister Mobutu Nyenpan that government has secured all funds for the implementation of feeder road projects in Montserrado County.“Today, we are here to affirm the government’s commitment of fixing our roads in this country. We want to assure the Liberian people and the Ministry of Public Works that the government of Liberia will fund these feeder road construction projects in Montserrado, and we want the Minister and his team to get ready to work because the money is there,” Mr. Tweah says.

In line with the government’s pro-poor agenda, he says the Weah administration is doing everything to ensure that roads and electricity are provided to enable the country’s economic growth and be counted among peers in the sub-region.

Public Works Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan named the Logan Town Broad Street, St. Michael Road, New Georgia Tusafield Road, Patient Shop, Police Academy, Duazon road, Fair Ground Road, Mendetama Road, ELWA Road, Cooper Farm road, Rehab Road, and Soul Clinic road, among others as some of the feeder roads that would be fixed under the new project.–Press release
