Grand Bassa, Bong for James Biney

In the wake of the ongoing leadership crisis within the former governing National Patriotic Party or NPP, its embattled Chairman James Biney has received massive support and endorsement of two counties.

Biney enjoys overwhelming support from Bong and Grand Bassa Chapters of the NPP.In two separate position statements issued over the weekend in Gbarnga and Buchanan respectively, the two counties’ chapters said they recognize and still enjoy the confidence of Mr. Biney as the legitimate chairman of the party.

A statement released by the party on Monday, November 26, in Monrovia says the two counties also recognize Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor as Standard Bearer of the NPP and the current leadership crisis which has the propensity to divide the party was unnecessary.

Both Bong and Grand Bassa have at the same time distanced themselves from the recent lawsuit filed against Mr. Biney and the Coalition for Democratic Change by the Jewel Howard Taylor faction of the NPP led by former Vice President John Gray.

NPP partisans from both counties are calling on Mr. Biney and Vice President Taylor to put aside their differences and unite the party for the common good of its partisans.Last week, the Jewel Taylor’s faction instituted a law suit against embattled Chairman James Biney, Chairman Mulbah Morlu and officials of the Coalition for Democratic Change for carrying themselves as leaders of the NPP and interfering in the internal affairs of the NPP. The legal matter is pending before the Sixth Judicial Civil Law Court of Montserrado County at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia.

The NPP is an offshoot of the defunct rebels National Patriotic Front of Liberia, which was commanded by jailed former President Charles Ghanka Taylor. Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor is estranged wife of Mr. Taylor and former First Lady.
