Grand Gedeh: DEA Seizes US71, 000 worth of Cocaine

The Drug Enforcement Agency or DEA in Grand Gedeh County has seized cocaine worth US$71,000 and 114 kilograms of marijuana with street value at LD$1.5m from a Nigerian and three others at separate interval on February 20, 2010.

DEA local Commander, Jeremiah Tetteh, told The New Dawn that the cocaine was seized from Kennedy Oyiema, 32, while en route to the drugs infested and most populated area called CVI where people are mining gold and diamond. CVI is located in Konobo District, Grand Gedeh County. He said DEA officers arrested suspect Oyiema at Gbarbo Town Checkpoint during an inspection on a vehicle he was in along with other occupants.

“Furthermore, there were other substances (drugs) collected from dealers during our raid carried in some villages and towns in Grand Gedeh,” Commander Tetteh said.

He indicated that suspect (Oyiema) and others apprehended have been charge with illegal possession of harmful substances and have been sent to the Zwedru Magistrate Court for trial. He maintained that because of the cost value attached, the suspects have been remanded at the National Police Centre (NPC) in Zwedru awaiting Court order. The Commander then assured residents of the agency’s commitment to raid drugs dealers and traffickers in the county.

Meanwhile, commander Tetteh has appealed to DEA authorities in Monrovia for logistics, adding that the lack of logistics was hampering their operations in the county.
