GVL Supports Marrakech Declaration

Golden Veroleum Liberia, an oil palm company here says it support the Marrakech Declaration. It says as a company committed to responsible oil palm development and with a long-standing policy of no-deforestation, its endorses and supports the commitments made at COP22 under the Marrakesh Declaration for the sustainable development of the oil palm sector in Africa, signed on 16 November 2016.

The declaration is aligned with our no-deforestation Forest Conservation Policy implemented across our operations in Liberia. The Marrakesh Declaration represents a shared pledge by the governments of Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Liberia, the Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone to develop national oil palm sectors in a way that delivers environmental targets (including no net deforestation), while respecting national land use plans and the rights of indigenous people.

The initiative brings together Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 Partners and collaborators within governments, companies, civil society and indigenous and local peoples groups to ensure the palm oil sector is a sustainable driver of long-term, low-carbon development in the region in a way that is sociallybeneficial and protects tropical forests of the region.
