Golden Veroleum Liberia or GVL has welcomed the recent final decision issued by the Complaints Panel of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil in the country.
The final decision, dated Sept. 19th, 2015, identified complaints made to the organization, which had been investigated by the RSPO Complaints panel. A GVL press release says included in the report are clarifications on the company’s Concession Agreement, employment, Free, Prior and Informed Consent, employment of former combatants, crop compensations, etc. “We thank RSPO for many months of looking into all the details surrounding these complaints and coming up with what they have noted to be evidence-based decisions,” said Stephen Binda, GVL Spokesperson. The release says in each case RSPO conducted a detailed assessment of GVL operations and its community engagements, along with consultations with local communities and NGO and CSO stakeholders.
It added that in June 2014 RSPO members completed a field visit to Sinoe and Grand Kru Counties. During the initial visit the team met with community members and GVL staff and managers. Also in attendance at the meetings were non-governmental organizations Sustainable Entrepreneurs for Sustainable Development (SesDEV), Save My Future Foundation (SAMFU) and Green Advocates.
