“I got a feeling that I could serve my people and country better and in a bigger capacity after completing GVL’s Engineering Training Program in Indonesia. I am excited that my professional capacity is now developed to the extent where I’m better positioned to contribute to Liberia’s growth and development” Theophilus A.T. Kambo – GVL’s Cadet Engineer.

April 2014 — When Theophilus A.T. Kambo, Jr embarked on an Engineering Training Program organized by Golden Veroleum Liberia in Indonesia 2013, little did he know it would help prepare him for a top post in GVL’s engineering department.  Theo applied for GVL’s electrical engineer and career advancement opportunity in 2012; he was selected among hundreds of applicants to pursue engineering courses in Indonesia.

“The process was very challenging, but worthy; I applied for the program (Electrical Engineer and Opportunity for Career Advancement) in September, 2012. Having met the recruitment criteria (GVL’s Policies Covering Recruitment), I received a communication to sit an aptitude test along with other Liberian Electrical Engineers on Tuesday, March 12, 2013. I was successfully selected (based on my performance in an aptitude test); during the vetting process by Golden Veroleum Liberia. “Thank God I made it”, I said.

Theophilus Kambo and six (6) others are beneficiaries of GVL’s cadets training program which is currently ongoing in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia 2013. After building up his professional, technical and leadership skills in constructing palm oil mill, operating diesel generators and steam turbo alternators among other disciplines, Theo is now a supervisor for the GVL’s Oil Palm Mill construction in Butaw, Sinoe County, Southeastern Liberia.

“I am learning new ideas and better approaches to delivering my tasks effectively, and this happens almost every day. The most significant up to this date – I have learned Supervision of Electrical Installations in the Construction of GVL’s Palm Oil Mill. This has also exposed me to the world of Palm Oil Mill Construction, Project Management and Project Supervision which has added values to my potency” Theo noted.

Theo was born in the Voinjama, a small city that serves as the capital of Lofa County, in Northern Liberia; located near the Guinean border with more than twenty-eight (28,000) inhabitants according to the 2008 national census of Liberia. 27 year-old Theo, a father of a girl child completed high school in 2005 and pursued undergraduates’ studies at the state run University of Liberia, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree.

“I was teaching and going to school, I thought mathematics at various high schools in Monrovia however, leaving the post as a mathematics teacher and now occupying an Electrical Engineering Post brings great joy to my entire life – God has truly answer my prayers” Theo laments. His professional colleagues describe him as hard-working, humorous and outgoing person who serves as a motivation to them – a trait that followed him to his new position at GVL.

Theophilus is passionate about what he does and encourages other young people working with GVL to prioritize their education and take learning very seriously. Theo parents encouraged him to pursue and education and he was fortunate to have graduated and making maximum use of his gifts. Theo and six others are currently in Jakarta, Indonesian Capital advancing their skills in Electrical Engineering and operations.

“There have not been many difficulties in Indonesia except for obvious situation like the language barrier and the difference in food systems. Yes, I have coped with the situation. One good quality of humans is adaptation. I quickly adapted and I have adjusted to the Indonesian lifestyle” Theo laments his experience in Jakarta.
