Harper General Market gets facelift

Businessmen and women at the Harper General Market in Harper City, Maryland County dance and jubilate, expressing appreciation to Senator H. Dan Morias for renovating their market that had been in a deplorable condition.


The project, which covers roofing, lying of tiles and painting, among others, was executed by the senator at a cost of US$25,000 in response to request made by authority of the market.

Speaking to this paper after the turning over ceremony on Sunday, 6 May Senator Morias says due to his committed to the growth and development of Maryland County, he saw it prudent enough to assist the business community of the county by renovating the market.

He discloses that the next phase of the project is to build a bank to block flooding that normally creates problem for citizens selling outside the market. The senator also reveals plan to break grounds for the erection of an early childhood development school in the market for marketers’ children.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, market superintendent Abraham Wilson lauds Senator Morias for his intervention, which he describes as timely, given that the rainy season is already here.

However, he appeals to the senator to help electrify the market building for smooth business transactions during night hours, particularly Saturday evenings to avoid selling on Sunday.
