Health hazard threatens Vai Town
Residents of Vai Town Community Wednesday staged a peaceful protest to flag poor sanitary environment in the community. Speaking in an interview, a spokesperson for the community, Sheick A.M. Sheriff, explains the protest was intended to alert requisite authorities about constant pollution of the area allegedly by two business institutions, Jetty Trading Company and T. Choithram and Sons Company, respectively operating in Vai Town.
According to him, T. Choithram and Sons Company is always involved in throwing pollutants in the community after offloading its containers. Jetty Trading Company’s septic tanks usually overflow in the community whenever it rains, Mr. Sheriff explains.
One resident of the community, Moivee Massaley, laments the deplorable condition of the community, and calls on government for quick intervention. Massaley continues that the matter is causing serious environmental hazard for residents has the propensity to undermine health of the local population.Managements of both business institutions were not available for comment.
