Heavy storms render over 500 homeless

Heavy rainstorm has rendered over 500 people homeless in Perkins’ Farm along the Borlorla Road in Margibi County.

The storm disaster struck recently during evening hours, a resident of the town, James S. Boakai, told The NewDawn.

According to him, residents of the town are currently sleeping outdoors because all houses were left roofless with many completely destroyed.

Mr. Boakai said the residents have no financial means of renovating their houses, adding that they are in urgent need and would highly appreciate help from government, humanitarian groups and philanthropists.

He also emphasized the need for building materials such as nails, zinc and cement, among others urgently needed for reconstruction and renovation.

Margibi County has suffered series of storm disasters, affecting various communities, including Larkayta Township, leaving many people homeless as well as Sackie Gbonmon Town storm incident, which damaged a school building and wounded an old lady in the past few years.
