HILLSAC stresses youth empowerment

The president of Hill Social and Athletic Club or HILLSAC, a local social group, Mohammed A. Osama, has stressed the need for Liberian youths to strive for community change towards advancing development.

Osama observed that youth empowerment will go a long way in enhancing the socio-economic agenda of their communities. He made statement over the weekend at the induction ceremony of officers of the Social and Athletic Club Incorporated held at the Newport Junior School in central Monrovia.

Those inducted include: Mohamed Osama, President; Sulaiman Bah, Vice President; Robert S. Tamba, Secretary; Abraham Roger, Assistant Secretary; Agnes D. Paye, Financial Secretary; Wilmot P. Karngbe, Assistant Finance Secretary and Beatrice S. Ajayou-Mensah, Treasurer.

Osama said, HILLSAC has initiated empowerment programs in the area of education and job creation with emphasis on recreation to foster unity. He noted the lack of empowerment for youth in several communities has led to disobedience, illicit drugs consumption, alcohol and commercial sex, among other negative habits.

He indicated that HILLSAC is a certified and legally registered youth-based recreational and developmental organization with a track record of capacity and ambition building of its members. The organization founded in 2005, uses clean-up campaign, socialization, character building, physical fitness and health related programs to reach out to young people in communities.

Osama added that the organization has over 100 members and looks forward to more people coming onboard to enhance youth development in the country. Inducting the officers, Liberian businessman Boima Foley, urged the leadership to be law abiding and do away with acts that have the propensity to sow confusion among its rank and file.
