The House of Representatives has summoned the Interim Management Team of the Liberia Electricity Corporation or LEC to appear before Plenary next Thursday, 6 April for allegedly disrespecting a committee at the House.
The chairman on Contracts, Concessions, Public Procurement and Monopolies Rep. Henry B. Fahnbulleh has complained to the Plenary that his committee wrote the LEC Interim Management Team on three different occasions, but the committee has not yet received received a single document up to date.
He says the LEC Interim Management Team is not only attempting to stall the committee’s work, but it is also attempting to undermine the authority of plenary by allegedly creating a false impression that it is a ‘’super entity’’ that cannot be brought under legislative oversight.
Based on the committee’s request on 2 December 2016, Rep. Fahnbulleh says the Procurement and Concession Commission provided a list of 29 entities including main budget- line entities and non- budget line State Owned Enterprises or SOEs that are non compliant with the PPCC Act.
Through the office of the Chief Clerk, the committee says it wrote the first batch Of communication involving entities that are providing critical services for information in order to commence public hearings.
