Bong County Senator, Jewel Howard Taylor has bragged that if she likes, she could be like everybody else, takes vacation and stays out of the country for nine months and yet be paid as a senator whether she works or not, and no one will do anything to her.
“…I can be like everybody else and take vacation and leave the country for nine months, you can’t do anything to me. I’m elected for nine years. So I can get pay for nine years and do nothing and you can’t do anything until election day”, the former First Lady told aggrieved teachers at the Kakata Rural Teacher’s Training Institute or KRTTI recently in Kakata, Margibi County.
The teachers had expressed serious disappointment in Bridge International Academy and the Government of Liberia over the manner which they were treated during two weeks training and other issues in the educational sector.
Bridge International Academy is one of Gov’t partners under a Public-Private-Partnership or PPP to improve the education sector.Senator Taylor was asked to address the plight of teachers in Liberia, but the teachers suddenly did not agree with her on certain part of the discussion and they started to make noise as she spoke , causing her to unleash her anger indicating that she could get pay without work for nine years as a senator.
In a related development, the Bong County Lawmaker who is also the Chair on Education at the Liberian Senate, told the teachers that she does not sincerely know the minimum wage or least pay for teachers in the country.
