A Special Christmas soccer tournament kick offs on December 25 at the ATS. The USA-based Unity Fest is organizing the season’s best -out -of -three tourney involving the country’s two traditional arch-rivals in grand style.
According to the president of Unity Fest, Charles Burton, who just arrived from the USA, along with two of his officials, Michael Samukai and James Gbarwea, the idea of matching the two football teams is to renaissance the thrill and moments the pair brought to their thousands of fans and sympathizers years back.
Burton said the initiative is also intended to help revive the two clubs, giving their wanting conditions as a result of the long standing economic problems of the country. Barrolle and I.E will meet on December 25 and 29, 2010, as well as on New Year Day on January 1, 2011ll at the ATS in Monrovia.
According to the organizers, the two teams will receive cash awards, a set of jerseys each, special designed footballs and a trophy for the winner of the tournament.
Unity Fest will also stage a second-to-none awards night at the Monrovia YMCA, minutes following the final match of the IE, Barrolle best Out of three tournaments to respect and remember legends of the Liberia national team, the Lone Star.
George Weah, James Debbah, Patrick Saah, Mark Gibson, as well as Kelvin Sebwe are among many others to be honored. An award in memory of slain Liberian President Samuel K. Doe, known as the “SKD Lifetime Achievement Award”, will be presented by the Unity Fest, as well.
