To get involve in business you must first get to know and understand who you are. Know and understand yourself; for it is in knowing and understanding yourself that you will get to know your customers. Ask for guidance and direction as well as seek useful information. Information is everywhere. Go out and seek the information you need. Do a thorough research of the business you want to be involved into. There are many who have allowed their emotions to dictate the kind of business they want to do. Understand it is not about your emotion or feelings, but rather it is about having a thorough understanding of the kind of business you want to do as well as doing a good research. Friend, you surely will fail in business if you allow your emotions or feelings to dictate the kind of business you want to do.

I have heard many who say if I start this business or that business I will succeed. Thanks for such a conviction, but it is not enough. Go to the field. Study the people and their environment. Take a keen look at them. What do they like to talk about? What do they like to wear? What do they like to eat? Watch out for the things that dominate their lives and the community. Do a complete study/survey of those who are your potential customers. There is something about them and the environment in which they live and so look out for that thing.

Do you know yourself- who are you? How well do you really know yourself? What is your personality-your character? What is your life’s purpose? You can never succeed in life and in business if you do not have a purpose. Do you have self awareness as well as take control of your life? Do you have self control-knowing how to react to situation? Having answers to the above questions would lay the platform for your success in life and in business. Know also that your success in business depends on your product knowledge, an understanding of yourself, and your business environment.

To be discipline in business is very important. This is an important ingredient many here are missing. You will only get out of life what you demand from life. Whatever you believe will happen. If you believe that you can never own a business then you will never own one. But if you believe that all things are possible to them that believe, then everything you desire is possible and will happen for you only if you believe. Ask for help, you cannot do it alone. Never give up because it is you and only you that holds your destiny. Ask God for guidance and direction and be persistent. Persistence and consistency play an important part in your being in business. You will have to persevere for as it is said small incremental steps with consistency will take you there.

Friend, stop being an island. Life and business demand you affiliate with people. There are people that need you. Go find them. Activate yourself. Move toward neighbors. You will not succeed in life and business unless you are connected to people. I want to emphasize this again, you do not need to set up a throne in the middle of each city saying “this is the only place you can see me”. You will have to go to the market place. Go to the people on the streets. Go to the out of the way places. Go everywhere. You must be reachable if you want to succeed in business.

You will need to have traits of a mature self- actualizing person and must accept reality and be facts friendly. Learn to gather facts of the business you want to do. If you do not have all of the facts and because someone says the business is lucrative and you invest your money in it then you are stupid. You must be able to see through flattery, deception and must be able to cope with problems rather than avoid them. You will have to accept yourself and others as well as connect with people on the way to actualizing your vision, and to contribute to others too. You will need to have a strong sense of right and wrong.

Understand that self-development plays an important part in your involvement as well as staying on in business. And of course in your self-developmental process, who you are has to do with your self-awareness. Who do you want to be has to do with visioning. Friend, you must have a vision bigger than self. Why do you need to be who you want to be deals with your needs or opportunities assessment? What traits do you currently possess is your benchmark number one. What do you need to add is your benchmark number two and of course what talents/hobbies you have that you can turn into business has to do with looking inward-assessing your gifts/talents that God has given you.

Learn to generate and manage information and you must have the knowledge of information technology because if you are not computer literate you simply cannot compete in the business of today. There are two things that will help you in your life development process-the people you interact with and the books you read. Continuous education is also an important success factor in your business success. When you stop learning it is the time you start failing.

There are many things that you will need to learn in business to become successful, first you will need to get a professional(s) to do a feasibility study and draw up a business plan for you. You can get to banks to finance your business if they think the business is viable and you will really need to be discipline as you will need to be involved in proper advertising, budgeting and strategy.
